Lighting is expressive and non materialistic, in horror lighting is usually low key, representing darkness and evil. Props can help us identify the horror genre such as knives, chainsaws, costumes, firearms and other random items. Other objects that help us subjectify horror is masks, religious icons and icons of the supernatural world. Narrative structureThe narrative in a horror usually features someone dying, being hurt or followed. Usually victims are young girls, with the absence of parents and tend to be with friends who have left them alone. If a narrative is left open ended, it leaves room for a sequel.
In a horror there is always a final girl, protagonist or a hero. A killer is almost always disturbed or troubled.

The setting in a horror is usually isolated, in urban environments, dark streets, big houses and more. Some horrors take place in a setting that has a bad history such as an asylum, dark woods, haunted houses or creepy hotels.
Who dies first in horrors?Nearly ever horror will feature a death in the first few minutes, thus person also known as the site of activity. This site of activity usually being a blonde or at least a girl. This is because according to their stereotype of blondes, they are an easy target and/or naive and dumb.
absence of parentsIf you haven't noticed, parents always tend to have disappeared from the film when there is any sort of killing or tragedies in a horror. This is because it makes the teen or child being killed look naive and irresponsible as if they are physically unable to be alive without their parents.
