time of day to film and lighting
To improve the atmosphere we have decided to film at night, which is generally when a horror is usually filmed.
5:30-7:00-7:00- |
This is the best time to film in the Winter if we are looking for low key lighting to cause atmosphere.
Most of our filming was completed during these times because we knew it would have the biggest effect on the audience making them feel scared.

When we filmed inside the garage, the time of day was not considered because we were unable to see outside and we only used artificial lighting. However, it was important that we used the correct lighting and thoroughly thought about the types of lighting we used.
Darkness
Darkness is an essential part of a horror and really helps to create tension and fear. The fear of darkness is a very generalisable fear that a lot of people have. This therefore makes it perfect for a horror because people are afraid and scared to watch it.
Silhouette
Silhouette's are prominent shadows that take it a step further to distort the image and to create tension in the audience. We used this in a small part of our opening title sequence to create fear of an unknown figure. They are scary because they do not give us the information we are looking for and therefore triggers an alarm that suggests we're in danger.

High key and low key
Our opening title sequence features both high and low key lighting. High key used in the garage to enhance the reality of the death scene. It allows the audience to see the victim and notice her injuries clearly. This therefore makes it a good horror as the injuries are realistic and outstanding in light.
The low key lighting was used in the kidnap scene and any outside activity. This enhances the reality as the usual horror happens in the dark. This makes the audience feel nervous and makes them believe the opening title sequence is more creepy in the dark rather than the light. |
